Pooler is part of the Savannah Metropolitan Area, an area that offers a wide variety of activities and attractions for visitors and residents alike to enjoy. In fact, the city describes itself as “the closest interstate connection to Historic Savannah, Georgia and the Tybee beaches,” meaning you’ll find plenty to do and see in the local area.

History

The city of Pooler was named in honor of Robert William Pooler, a hard-working and civic-minded employee of the Central of Georgia Railroad. A Savannah resident, Pooler died on Christmas Day in 1853 never having lived in the community that had been named after him 15 years earlier.

After suffering through the effects of the Civil War, the community, along with the rest of the South, entered a new period of revitalization when free lots were provided to builders for use in constructing homes. This innovative method of community development was pioneered by Ben Rothwell, who helped revive the area.

Pooler was finally incorporated in 1907 and its town hall built in 1923. The town flourished with the opening of Interstate 95 and the establishment of a wide variety of local business enterprises.
